Cricket clubs playing at the Bout-du-Monde Sports centre have recently learned a pretty bad news: their beautiful cricket pitch is due to be demolished in the years to come !
Indeed, in the framework of renovating the sports centre, the City of Geneva plans to strip the ground off its cricket pitch without offering any alternatives. Whilst it would be possible to mutualise and rationalise further the use of the ground, thus ensuring that plenty of different sport activities can take place alongside cricket, the City of Geneva would rather get rid of us. Bye bye minority sports !
Geneva CC, Geneva Sri Lanka CC and Geneva International CC are now all endangered species. Around 150 players and club members could end up as cricket orphans. Moreover, these three clubs play a pivotal role in the life and development of cricket at the national level. A proper catastrophe for our beloved sport on a countrywide scale…
Played in Geneva since the beginning of the 19th century, cricket might not be very popular here but it is alive, vibrant and growing continuously over the last years. Let us avoid hampering its development and support our quest.
